Jessica Mount Matney, M.S., CCC-SLP is a Speech Language Pathologist and Developmental Vision Specialist at the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired – Early Childhood Program. She earned her Master’s degree at the University of New Mexico in 2004 and Vision Specialist Certification at New Mexico State University in 2015. Jessica began her practice in early intervention and has spent the last 11 years working with children with severe disabilities and vision impairments.
Working with children at the earliest stages of communication development is a passion for Jessica. The Communication Matrix (Rowland, 2002) serves as the basis for assessment and goal development for all of her students who are non-verbal. Jessica has worked extensively with the staff at New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired to make the Communication Matrix the focus of their Intensive Support Program and it is now implemented by the teamworking in collaboration with the entire educational and therapeutic team. She has also served as a mentor to other school districts working to implement this style of intervention.
